SlutWalk Seattle news
Here’s the latest news on SWS!
- Our next planning meeting will be held on Sunday, May 20th. As those of you who were at the last meeting know, we tentatively decided on May 13th, but the 20th works better for the directors. As usual, agendas, minutes, times, dates, and directions can be found at slutwalkseattle.com/meetings (we won’t be sending out minutes anymore so just refer to that page from now on). Parking information has been added to that page as well.
- The deadline for applying to speak at SWS ‘12 has been extended to May 19th. The application is available here.
- We have appointed three new officers! They are:
- Kiri Ballach, Security Coordinator
- Ta Ganados, Master of Ceremonies
- Beth Nelson, Treasurer
- We’re considering coordinating a rideshare program. We probably won’t get around to this until June, but if you suspect you’ll need a ride to SWS ‘12, or you can give others a ride, send us an email at info@slutwalkseattle.com with “rideshare” in the subject line and tell us what city you live in (or neighborhood, if it’s a big city like Seattle).
- Just a reminder, as you may or may not have heard, SWS ‘12 will not be on August 4th. The permit process has been long and complicated, but presently, it looks like our route will be from Occidental Park to Westlake Park and the event will be on Sunday, September 9th. We’re just a week or two away from securing permits and 501(c)(4) status so things will be really taking off very soon!
Location & Date Changes
After talking with the city, it looks like we will have to change our planned location (South Lake Union Park to Seattle Center) and date (August 4th). Seattle Center is out of our price range, and due to Seafair there won’t be enough police officers to escort us on the 4th.
We’re currently trying to figure out a new plan. The two ideas we have for a route are Cowen Park to Red Square on the University of Washington campus, and Cal Anderson Park to Westlake Center (last year’s route). We’re also looking at the weekends of August 11/12 and 18/19 as possible dates.
If you have any suggestions about the route or the date, you can email us at info@slutwalkseattle.com or come to the next planning meeting on Sunday, 4/29, which will take place in Savery Hall 130 on the University of Washington campus from 12pm to 3pm.
